The National Dementia Workforce Study (NDWS) is sponsored by the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health. NDWS is the first comprehensive, multi-profession study of the workforce that provide, or could provide, care to persons living with cognitive impairment or dementia.
Preparing an effective workforce to care for this population is a crucial public health challenge facing the U.S. There are currently many gaps in our understanding of this workforce, one that includes millions of workers who have significant influence on the quality and costs of care for persons living with cognitive impairment or dementia. NDWS will conduct annual surveys of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, direct care workers, and other health care professionals in four key practice settings: community clinicians, nursing home staff, assisted living staff, and home care staff.
Nearly everyone who provides care for older adults in the U.S. is caring for people living with cognitive impairment or dementia. By participating in NDWS, you can help us better understand the challenges and opportunities faced by health care professionals, like yourself.
